Digital Design implements portal solutions for Finnish group Onninen branches in Europe and Asia

Digital Design is in the process of Internet and Intranet portals roll-out for international group Onninen. So far, seven local portal versions are created out of total nine projected.

Under this project, Digital Design develops and localizes internal and external portals for Onninen company branches in different countries, creates new portals for Onninen brands as well as provides technical support of existing ones. Since July 2009, when the project began, Russian IT-integrator specialists created local intranet-portal versions for Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia and internet-portal for China. There was also developed a new internet-portal for Onninen chain in Norway, Elfag. Roll-outs for Norway and Poland will be completed by the end of 2010.

Onninen intranet portals automate a number of production business processes (for instance, cargo transportation requests) and organize unified informational space for all regional office employees, providing for effective cooperative work and information management. Internet-portals provide external users with full information on services and products being provided, prices and special offers, as well as allow for orders to be placed on-line etc.

In opinion of Alexey Filimonov, Head of Digital Design Software Solutions Department, “Portal roll-outs are not limited by simple translation of all their content into desired language. A complex approach is needed for a proper roll-out completion, as you need to take into consideration specific features of each branch and keep up with a unified concept at the same time.”

Kai Puustinen, Senior Vice President, Group Communications at Onninen Oy, underlines: “For a comfortable control and business processes unification in branches of our company we needed to combine local systems of each branch on a common portal platform. At the same time, we had to keep local specific character which would be in correspondence with unique business requirements of each branch. Onninen Group possesses geographically-distributed structure and this leads to certain communication problems. However, along the project timeline we observe that these problems are being solved through unified portals. On top of that, uniform sites’ structure makes it possible renew information in easy, fast and accurate manner.”
