Office 365 Plan for Your Business – Comparing Plans

Tags: ,

While many businesses use server-based Microsoft products to run organizational processes, only a few have discovered the benefits of cloud-based versions. One thing that argues in favour of the latter is that using Office 365 keeps software upgrades costs down. Another argument is that monthly bills for per-user licensing subscriptions are relatively predictable compared to the server-based services.

As organizations differ in what concerns their size, scale, domain and business goals, Microsoft has done a great job to elaborate Office 365 subscription plans to meet the needs of every company. And as far as the easiest and most comfortable way to classify businesses is by their size and scale, Microsoft has split its plans into 4 categories:

  • Business plans;
  • Enterprise plans;
  • Education plans;
  • Government plans.

Let’s take a closer look at the first two of them. Keep an eye on the Digital Design blog for the description of the Education and Government subscription plans.

Office 365 Business Plans

These subscription plans are designed for small-to-medium sized companies.The basic difference between the first two groups is that the number of the users of the former is limited to 300. So if your organization has more than 300 SharePoint users, you should consider the options from the Enterprise plans family. Nevertheless, both categories provide its users with 1TB of storage space.

Office 365 Business Essentials Office 365 Business Office 365 Business Premium
$5.00 monthly per user $8.25 monthly per user $12.50 monthly per user
The plan provides online versions of Office apps, 50 GB mailbox, HD video conferencing with Skype for Business. As desktop Office apps are not included in the set, this plan is an ideal option for companies that focus solely on moving their e-mail to Office 365. This set of features offers full Office apps set for desktop plus apps for mobile devices. E-mail services are not included. It combines the features of the both previous sets.

Office 365 Enterprise Plans

The plans from this category apply specifically to large-scale companies and allow for unlimited number of users. Besides, they provide more extended sets of features.

Office 365 ProPlus Office 365 Enterprise E1 Office 365 Enterprise E3 Office 365 Enterprise E5
$12.00 monthly per user $8.00 monthly per user $20.00 monthly per user $33.00 monthly per user
The plan offers full set of desktop and mobile Office apps, self-service Business Intelligence in Excel. Note that email services are not included. This is basically an Enterprise version of the Business Essentials plan. There are though some additional features like teams’ intranet sites, the Yammer social networking service, search and discovery with the Office Graph, a corporate video portal and Internet meeting broadcast with a capacity of up to 10,000 attendees. It combines ProPlus and E1 plans features plus offers its users compliance tools, info protection and voicemail integration. This set has all the features of E3 plans plus HD video conferences with advanced capabilities.

Don’t be afraid to mix plans. It’s easy to subscribe all your employees to all-in-all plan for a maximum monthly price, but most probably not everyone needs a full set of the Office programs and integrated services. While comparing subscription plans for Office 365, place the key focus  on the functions your staff needs to run projects smoothly and effectively.
